Maersk’s Intra America Service brings an unprecedented connection between Paranaguá and the Mexican port of Manzanillo
Last Saturday, the company that manages the Paranaguá Container Terminal (TCP) received the container ship Galloway, from the Danish shipowner Maersk. When it docked, a plaque was handed over to celebrate the inauguration of the monthly Intra America Service (IAS), which connects Brazil, Colombia and Mexico.
According to TCP’s commercial manager for shipowners, Carolina Merkle Brown, “this service opens up new business opportunities for the Brazilian market operating through Paranaguá, because we now have an unprecedented connection with the port of Manzanillo, located on the west coast of Mexico”.
With a length of 207 meters (LOA), a width of 30 meters (beam) and a capacity of approximately 2,500 TEUs (equivalent to 20 feet of container length), the Maersk Galloway will call at the Paranaguá Container Terminal in Santos, the Cartagena terminal in Colombia and the Manzanillo terminal in Mexico.
“We expect the frequency of calls for this service to grow this year, increasing the flow of exports and imports of the main goods handled between Paranaguá and Central America,” explains Carolina. Refrigerated meats, pulp and paper, wood, chemical products and packaging are among the most prominent segments in long-haul shipping within the American continent.
TCP currently has 20 maritime services in its portfolio, providing global coverage for exporters and importers from Paranaguá. In the first four months of 2024, the Terminal broke its berthing record for the period, receiving 345 ships at its quay.
