The terminal will also finance the cost of maintaining the first echelon of Search and Rescue Boats (LBS), which serve island communities in the Paranaguá Bay region.

This June, TCP, the company that manages the Paranaguá Container Terminal, delivered diving suits and helmets, flippers, buoyancy systems, buoys and other materials to the 1st Paranaguá Fire Department, located in the Costeira neighborhood. In all, 61 pieces of equipment were delivered to the unit, which will also receive, until January 2025, the first echelon maintenance service for Search and Rescue Boats (LBS).

The equipment will be used in operations carried out in aquatic environments, such as rescues in cases of drowning, responding to incidents on the beaches and islands near Paranaguá, and in incidents in areas that are difficult to access or with rough terrain, providing support and safety to firefighters in their operations.

Rafael Stein, TCP’s Institutional and Legal Manager, says that “the delivery of the equipment and the cost of the first-rate maintenance of the Rescue Boats are commitments made by the Terminal with the aim of strengthening the work of the Paranaguá Fire Brigade, a partner institution that provides an extremely important service to the entire population of Paranaguá, especially in island communities, where access can only be made by boat”.

The 1st Subgroup of the Paranaguá Fire Department has two speedboats equipped with materials for pre-hospital care, such as stretchers and basic medical equipment, enabling the rescue and initial care of victims in aquatic emergencies. They also help teams move quickly to areas of occurrence located in the coastal region and island communities of Paranaguá Bay, as well as in operations on Ilha do Mel, Ilha das Cobras and Ilha do Teixeira.

According to Captain Éverton Soares de Oliveira, Commander of the Paranaguá Fire Department, “the institution considers the receipt of this equipment by TCP to be extremely important. They represent a significant boost to the operational capabilities of the Paranaguá Fire Department, providing modern and adequate resources for the demands of rescue and salvage in the region. With this new equipment, a significant improvement in the efficiency and safety of water and land rescue operations is expected, contributing to the preservation of life and the protection of the local community”.

The delivery of the equipment and the cost of maintaining the speedboats is part of the Basic Environmental Plan for the TCP Expansion and is part of the Terminal’s Environmental Education Program.
