The action is part of the Yellow May Movement and aims to make drivers aware of safe traffic practices
This Wednesday (5), the company that manages the Paranaguá Container Terminal (TCP) is running a traffic safety awareness campaign for truck drivers passing through the Pre-Gate, the sorting yard where containers are checked and drivers wait to enter the terminal.
The action takes place from 9am to 6pm and is part of the Yellow May Movement, whose theme this year is “Peace in traffic starts with you”. During the event, truck drivers will receive flyers with information on traffic safety, giveaways, and will be instructed by Terminal staff on measures to be adopted to prevent accidents.
Every day, more than a thousand truck drivers pass through the terminal, and they are one of the main people responsible for moving cargo in and out of TCP. “Raising awareness about traffic safety is essential to ensure that drivers are informed about their role in preventing accidents, both on the roads and inside the Terminal,” explains the health, safety and environment manager, Kayo Zaiats.
Some of the safety measures that truckers must follow inside TCP’s operations yard are, for example, entering with personal protective equipment (PPE), not using a cell phone and respecting the permitted speed limit of 30 km/h.
The action also aimed to inform drivers about the facilities made available by the Terminal: “we know that truck drivers travel great distances to get here and we are always working to make their experience better, bringing more convenience and speed to their services,” says Rafael Stein, TCP’s institutional and legal manager.
TCP Go is one of these tools. Launched in 2023, it is for the exclusive use of truck drivers and allows them to schedule their entry and issue their outbound receipt in an automated way. As well as speeding up these steps, reducing congestion, the app has also eliminated the need to use paper in these procedures.
Another measure that brought more agility to drivers was the completion of the modernization works at the Gate, the access point to the operations yard. Completed in April 2024, the new structure improved vehicle access to the terminal by 200%, increasing the capacity for entry appointments from 50 to 150 per hour. Some of the improvements implemented in this project were the expansion of the number of lanes, from seven to eight; the installation of various monitoring systems and cameras; and the replacement of the old service booths with fully automated totems.
