The new Terminal Tractors have greater autonomy and offer more modern safety systems.
The company that manages the Paranaguá Container Terminal (TCP) signed on august the purchase of 17 Terminal Tractors (TTs). The arrival of the equipment, used to transport containers between vessels, yard, warehouse and railroad, is scheduled for November and will increase the terminal’s fleet by 33%.
The KT2i 4×2 model, manufactured in Poland by Kalmar, is the most modern available in the market. The new trucks have the capacity to carry up to 85 tons of cargo and have an autonomy of three days of uninterrupted operations, twice the working period of the vehicles in use at the terminal. “Updating TCP’s fleet of Terminal Tractors will bring more efficiency to the terminal’s operations, as well as ensuring greater safety for our employees,” explained the operations and safety superintendent, Nicolas Wang.
The vehicles acquired by TCP have protection systems (ROPS and FOPS) and structural reinforcements in the cabin, which ensure greater safety for employees. In addition, the models offer greater comfort and ergonomics to drivers, thanks to cabs with wide visibility, adjustable seats and pneumatic cushioning. The electric cab lift also facilitates maintenance services. In addition to the purchase of the TTs, TCP intends to acquire 27 more terminal trailers (semi-trailers of the truck) to complement the fleet.
According to Wang, “the investments made both in equipment and infrastructure, as well as in hiring and training personnel, directly reflect these results”. In 2022, TCP reached the mark of 1.16 million TEUs (unit equivalent to a 20-foot-long container) handled, a record value for the period of one year and 619% higher than that handled in 1998, the year the company was founded.
