Equipment supplied by TCP will be used in forestry and demographic monitoring of the city.
The Container Terminal of Paranaguá (TCP) delivered several equipment for georeferencing to the City Hall of Paranaguá during a ceremony held at the terminal on Monday (27). A drone; a desktop computer with mouse, keyboard and monitor; and a tablet, in addition to software that allows processing images from RGB or multispectral cameras, were donated. This action is part of the conditions received by TCP regarding the expansion works of the port terminal, that have been completed in 2019.
The devices were a demand from the Paranaguá Municipal Department of Urbanism to improve the monitoring and inspection work in the city. Helton Onose, superintendent of urban planning at the city hall, explains that the materials “will be used in the monitoring of environmentally sensitive areas, aiming to curb illicit actions harmful to the environment, and in the planning of land regularization.”
This is the first time that the urban planning sector will received a drone. The device, with a range of up to 6 thousand meters above the sea, can travel distances of up to 30 km from its starting point. Átila Shiroma de Souza, control and analysis superintendent of the city hall, points out that “the partnership of the municipality with TCP will bring improvements to public services offered to the population, enhancing sustainable policies and improving the quality of life of Paranaguá”.
TCP’s institutional manager, Allan Chiang, explains that the donations will bring “direct benefits to the city’s monitoring work, contributing to Paranaguá’s environmental protection and preservation actions. The contribution is part of a series of social actions carried out by the company in the region. In 2022, more than 60 socio-environmental projects were executed on the Paranaguá coast. One example was the inauguration of the state school on Amparo Island, which sought to expand access to education in the region. Another activity was the enlargement of the Coastal Residents’ Association. The new space allowed us to increase the number of free activities for the residents”.
After receiving the equipment, the staff will be trained by the city hall and will develop teams to operate the devices. The idea is that the devices will be used by inspection and land regularization professionals.
