The group got to know the structure of the company; TCP presented the production records and investments that are being made.
On Thursday (24), the Maersk Panama team visited the Paranaguá Container Terminal (TCP) and got to know the company’s operational structure. Maersk is a Danish shipowner considered the largest maritime container transportation company in the world, with a fleet of more than 550 ships, moving 12 million containers a year.
The visit was attended by the terminal planning manager for the East Coast of South America (ECSA), Alvaro Noble; the manager of the ECSA port complex, Eduardo Simplicio; and the manager of the ECSA port complex, Denis Lopes. The team was welcomed by the TCP team formed by managers Carolina Brown and Felipe de França and coordinator Ramon de Souza.
The group received detailed information about the investments that will be made with a focus on volume growth and greater coverage of services for customers. According to the shipowner manager, Carolina Brown, “a characteristic that strengthens our partnership is that TCP is part of the portfolio of China Merchants Port Holding Company (CMPort). That is, a company that has a large and modern structure to increasingly meet the demands of shipowners.
In Paranaguá, the terminal is also making major investments to expand its structure, strengthen its teams, and acquire the latest equipment. “At TCP, we will have the expansion of the number of outlets for reefer containers. This is a competitive advantage that ship-owners such as Maersk will be able to enjoy in our terminal,” highlights Brown. The terminal is expanding the reefer area, which will have 5,000 more outlets for powering and storing reefer containers by 2023, which represents a 43% increase in service.
The investments are already bringing results. In October, TCP registered a record 202 movements per hour (MPH) in a single ship. The number surpasses the 187 MPH recorded in 2017 by the company. The company also broke the record with Maersk itself: there were 158 PMPH (berth productivity), that is, movements from the moment the ship docked until the moment of departure. This number was the highest recorded on the east coast of South America so far this year. According to Maersk, the last record happened in January 2022, with 152 PMPH in another port terminal.
TCP is also the largest concentrator of maritime lines in the country and has 16 regular weekly calls, in export and import routes. Among them, five are offered by Maersk, which operates direct lines to Europe, the Far East, Africa, the Middle East, the Mediterranean, and the Americas.
