Terminal reached the mark almost a month before the record registered in 2021; the expectation is to end the year with 1.190 million TEUs handled.
On November 8th, TCP registered 20 days earlier the number of 1 million TEUs (measure for 20 feet container length) handled at the terminal. That is, in 2021, the number was recorded on November 28. The milestone occurred during the berthing of the ship CMA CGM Rhone, from the shipowner CMA CGM, which received 3,037 movements.
With the increase in draft, the reduction of maneuver restrictions, and investments in equipment, the waiting time of the ship at the terminal decreased 44% in relation to the period from January to October last year. According to commercial director Jan Zhang, “the terminal is increasing its operational and structural capacity to receive increasingly larger ships, with large amounts of cargo. The number of teams has also grown, allowing more agility in handling, shorter berthing time and greater rotation of ships.
Of the total full loads handled in the first 10 months of the year, 58.9% corresponded to exports, especially meat (160,147 TEUs) and wood (61,586 TEUs); and 41.1% to imports, highlighting the sectors of electrical (29,223 TEUs) and mechanical (28,064 TEUs) equipment and components.
Another highlight of the terminal’s increase is the railroad, which in this period moved about 160,000 TEUs, a growth of 38.5% compared to the same period last year. This value exceeds the number of containers handled in the entire year 2021.
In the year-on-year comparison, of the total handled, the segment that grew most was meat exports, with a growth of 17,215 TEUs (11.6% more than the same period of 2021). The second was the importation of pesticides, with 12,386 more TEUs (168% growth), followed by the importation of electrical equipment and components, which grew 23.6% (5,694 more TEUs).
The company’s expectation is to close the year 2022 with approximately 1.190 million TEUs operated, which will represent a growth of 8% compared to the year 2021. “These are large investments and high-impact goals for the country. The goal is to transform TCP into a reference for the international market,” says the director.
